Introduction by Luis Eduardo Pombo

Introduction by Luis Eduardo Pombo to the Isaac Kahn exhibition inaugurated in Montevideo on 29th December 1975, at Studio Montañez.

Through his exhibition at the studio of Carlo Montañez, Isaac Kahn aims to show his work inside the working environment he shared with his friend and fellow painter, and where he assimilated his knowledge and experience.

It would seem that, as OlivieroGirondo said, from the origins of his paintings a sculpture was forming with the same strength and features. Only the future can tell us whether this artist will reach a high standard of parallelism between painting and sculpture, or whether one deeper inclination will overcome the other. For the observer, this is something of a dilemma, a suggestion inspired by this exhibition.

I’d like to refer to his sophisticated and fundamental care in drawing. Today, plastic art is making a sort of return to drawing as a first step and basis for sculptures. Isaac Kahn himself confirms that when he states that all his works originate in designs. Design is the pyramids of Egypt and the pre-Columbian temples. These contain nothing disproportion- ate or exaggerated.

We shall deliberately omit the artist’s curriculum vitae with the exception of a few prestigious moments of his training: Sculpture and Design Course, Scholarship for Design and Painting at the Fine Arts Academy of Jerusalem.

In Uruguay Kahn worked with a group of professors of the Applied Art School of the Working University for the creation of a huge national shield to be displayed in the Law Building, and also took part in work on the Diorama of the Declaration of Independence, “Piedra Alta De Florida”, with the heroic figure of the priest Don Francesco de Larrobla.

This his first one-man exhibition in Uruguay.
